World Book Day
English
We believe that language is the root of all learning and is something to be fostered and developed at all stages. The National Curriculum divides English into three areas of study: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. We aim to promote confidence in all these areas so that all children realise their potential and are equipped with skills to aid them in their education and into adulthood. The School follows the National Literacy Strategy.
Home Reading
Children take home reading books every night and have a booklet for comments to be made. The Juniors have a Reading Journal to record in more detail what they have read.
English as an Additional Language
We recognise that many children who come to our school have a wealth of language experience other than English. Staff are encouraged to attend courses on working with children with EAL and some additional resources are targeted to some children in helping with accessing the curriculum.
